Serena Y. Shi
Senior Associate

Serena Shi joined The Lightsmith Group in November 2018 as a Senior Associate. Prior to joining Lightsmith, Ms. Shi was an Investment Analyst at the International Finance Corporation, the private sector investment arm of the World Bank, where she focused on direct equity and debt investments in the telecoms sector in emerging markets. She was previously an Associate at Goldman Sachs, where she worked on structured debt transactions across the renewable energy, telecoms, media, pharmaceutical, and consumer retail sectors.

Ms. Shi holds a B.S. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Tara L. Guelig
Director of Sustainability & Impact

Tara Guelig is The Lightsmith Group’s Director of Sustainability & Impact. Previously, Ms. Guelig spent 15 years at U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corporation¬†where she originated over $100 million in investments to SMEs in the financial services, logistics, climate finance, impact investing, and agribusiness sectors.¬†Tara was a Managing Director in the Office of Investment Policy responsible for the assessment and management of environmental, social, labor and human rights related risks in the portfolio. She has extensive field experience, having conducted due diligence, monitoring and evaluation visits in over 40 countries. Prior to joining OPIC, Tara worked at the International Finance Corporation in the Private Sector Development Unit and CARE International.

Ms. Guelig holds a Masters in Finance from the Carey School of Business at John Hopkins University, a Masters in International Development Studies from the Elliot School of International Affairs at George Washington University, and a B.A. from the College of William and Mary.
