Tara Guelig is The Lightsmith Group’s Director of Sustainability & Impact. She designed the firm’s approach to measuring impact and ensures that ESG issues are considered at all stages of the investment process. Previously, Ms. Guelig spent 15 years at U.S. Development Finance Corporation (formerly known as Overseas Private Investment Corporation) where she originated investments in the financial services, logistics, climate finance, impact investing, and agribusiness sectors. Serena Y. Shi
Serena Shi joined The Lightsmith Group in November 2018 as a Senior Associate. Prior to joining Lightsmith, Ms. Shi was an Investment Analyst at the International Finance Corporation, the private sector investment arm of the World Bank, where she focused on direct equity and debt investments in the telecoms sector in emerging markets. She was previously an Associate at Goldman Sachs, where she worked on structured debt transactions across the renewable energy, telecoms, media, pharmaceutical, and consumer retail sectors.
Ms. Shi holds a B.S. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Jill Xu joined The Lightsmith Group in January 2021 as an Investment Analyst. Prior to joining Lightsmith, Ms. Xu was an Investment Banking Analyst at Goldman Sachs in the Financial Institutions Group where she worked on M&A, equity and debt financing transactions across the financial technology, asset management and insurance sectors.
Ms. Xu holds a B.S. in Finance and Data Science from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Christina Celentano is an Advisor to The Lightsmith Group. Ms. Celentano has acted as an advisor to and investor in infrastructure and natural resources companies in both developed and developing markets globally. Most recently, Ms. Celentano was a member of the Energy Infrastructure Investment Team at Actis, a $12bn+ pan-emerging markets private equity firm based in London, where she focused on renewable energy transactions across Africa. Prior to this, she worked at both Black Rhino Group (then-owned by Blackstone) and International Finance Corporation, the private sector investment arm of the World Bank Group, where she focused on direct equity and debt investments in the midstream gas and electricity sectors in emerging markets. She began her career at Goldman Sachs in the Investment Banking Division, where she worked on transactions ranging from IPOs to raid-defenses across natural resources sectors globally.
Ms. Celentano holds an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in Economics from The University of Chicago.
Roman A. Balin
Roman Balin is a Fellow at The Lightsmith Group. He brings 7 years of experience mobilizing capital for blended finance investments and structuring advisory services that achieve ESG outcomes. Most recently, he served as a Partnerships Lead at the International Finance Corporation, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, where he managed its concessional and blended finance pipeline and contributed to financial solutions across disruptive technology, venture capital, and insurance. His work encompassed enhancing access to finance for women-owned and led enterprises across emerging markets. Roman began his career as a Research Associate to former Congressman Jim Kolbe, Chairman of the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Export Financing, as well as Jennifer Hillman, a former member of the World Trade Organization’s Appellate Body.
Roman graduated from the Elliott School at the George Washington University with a B.A., summa cum laude, and a specialization in international economics. He also studied international relations at Sciences-Po in Paris, France.
