THE ADAPTATION SME ACCELERATOR PROJECT (ASAP) is a grant-funded initiative led by Lightsmith and supported by the Global Environment Facility, Conservation International, and the Inter-American Development Bank that seeks to build an ecosystem for small- to medium-sized companies in emerging markets that have technologies, products, and services that can be used to build resilience to the impacts of climate change (“Adaptation SMEs”).
The program includes the identification of Adaptation SMEs around the world operating in sectors such as food & agriculture, analytics & risk modeling, water, insurance & risk transfer, energy, transportation, and infrastructure, among others, to be aggregated into a publicly searchable database, the development of a definition and eligibility criteria to define which types of products and services are considered “climate resilience & adaptation solutions”, a series of virtual convenings for Adaptation SMEs and other stakeholders, and partnerships with existing incubator and accelerator programs to develop adaptation-, resilience- and social impact-focused curriculum for Adaptation SMEs.
We have developed a taxonomy, including a definition and eligibility criteria, to establish what types of technologies, products and services offered by the private sector qualify as climate adaptation solutions.
The ASAP Adaptation Solutions Taxonomy is now available for download.
We are developing and integrating a network of companies and related stakeholders committed to climate adaptation through regional convenings, a public directory, and development practices.
We will partner with existing incubators and accelerator programs to provide bespoke programming and workshops to Climate Adaptation SMEs.
